Workplace Code of Conduct
Last updated: September 2026
This Code of Conduct sets the professional and ethical standards expected of everyone working with Genuine Counselling, across face-to-face consultations, online tele-health and all digital correspondence.
1. Professional Boundaries & Integrity
The practice maintains uncompromising professional and ethical boundaries across all service streams, including face-to-face consultations, online tele-health, and digital correspondence.
- Management of Dual Relationships: Personnel are strictly prohibited from engaging in personal, social, or financial relationships with active or former clients.
- Digital and Social Media Boundaries: Personal contact details (private phone numbers, personal emails) are never shared with clients, and personnel do not connect with clients on personal social media platforms.
- Accurate Professional Representation: Personnel must accurately convey their professional qualifications and operational scope. Personnel undergoing training or university placements explicitly represent their status to clients and stakeholders as a “Student on Placement.”
2. Client Confidentiality & Information Security
Given the sensitive nature of specialised trauma casework, including NSW Victims Services and SIRA files, absolute confidentiality is a foundational mandate of the practice.
- Data Protection Safeguards: Client records, case notes, and private data are accessed and stored solely within the practice's secure, encrypted clinical management software. No client data is permitted to be stored locally on personal devices.
- Private Tele-health Environments: When conducting remote consultations or virtual assessments, personnel operate from entirely private, secure spaces where conversations cannot be intercepted or overheard by external parties.
- Data Breach Protocols: Any accidental or suspected compromise of client privacy or data security is subject to an immediate reporting and mitigation framework overseen by the Principal Director.
3. Clinical Excellence & Lifespan Safeguards
- Trauma-Informed Practice Philosophy: The practice approaches all individuals with a deep commitment to trauma-informed care, ensuring empathy, safety, and respect are embedded in every intervention.
- Child Safe Standards: In alignment with the NSW Child Safe Standards, the practice enforces rigorous protections for children and young families. Any indication that a minor is at risk of significant harm triggers an immediate escalation to fulfil statutory mandatory reporting obligations.
- Operational Scope of Practice: Personnel operate strictly within their verified level of training and clinical competence. Specialised assessments, safety planning, and complex therapeutic interventions are directly supervised or co-managed by the Principal Director.
- Duty of Care and Disclosure: If immediate risks of harm to a client or a third party are identified during a session, the practice prioritises safety by executing necessary legal disclosures in accordance with Australian legislative mandates.
4. Professionalism and Workplace Etiquette
- Corporate Environment Standards: When utilising shared corporate business facilities, personnel maintain professional business attire and a respectful, quiet demeanour appropriate for a corporate, multi-tenant commercial centre.
- Collaborative Communication: The practice fosters an environment of mutual respect, demanding professional, constructive, and transparent communication among colleagues, corporate building staff, and clients.
5. Reflective Practice and Self-Care
- Commitment to Supervision: Personnel engage actively in professional development, arriving prepared for clinical case reviews and constructively integrating clinical feedback into their practice.
- Proactive Well-being Monitoring: Recognising the emotional demands of intensive trauma and rehabilitation support, the practice emphasises proactive self-care. Personnel are supported in monitoring their psychological well-being and utilising the practice's debriefing structures to address vicarious trauma and burnout.
